What we develop
Athletic performance is more than speed or strength. We develop the physical qualities athletes need to accelerate, produce force, jump, stop, change direction and control their body.
Speed & acceleration
First-step quickness and acceleration mechanics — getting force into the ground and getting moving.
Strength
The physical foundation an athlete needs to produce force and control it.
Power & explosiveness
Expressing that strength quickly, through jumping, sprinting and explosive movement.
Change of direction
Slowing down, repositioning and accelerating again without losing balance or time.
Jumping & landing
Jumping mechanics and coordination, and landing under control.
Athletic movement
Coordination, balance, mobility and body control that carry across whatever sport they play.
Training with a purpose
Athletes don't need more drills. They need the right training at the right time.
Sessions are planned, coached and progressed, so speed, strength and movement develop in an order that builds on itself. Exercises and progressions are adjusted to what the athlete can do well today, then moved forward as that changes.

Start with a free athlete assessment
The Athlete Movement Assessment is free, and it is how every athlete starts. It tells us where to begin so the first session is already the right one.
It is not a medical evaluation, a diagnosis or an injury screen.
What we do in it:
- Meet the athlete and hear what they want to work on
- See how they currently move
- Talk through their sport, their season and their goals
- Pick out obvious strengths and the areas that need development
- Decide the right starting point for their training
Who it's for
Athletes who want to get better at being athletes, whatever they play.
Youth athletes through high school. Training develops qualities that carry across sports, so an athlete does not need to specialize to benefit — and does not need to already be strong or fast to start.
- Volleyball
- Basketball
- Soccer
- Football
- Track & field
- Tennis
- Softball

How we build better athletes
The principles behind the training.
- Movement quality comes before complexity.Complexity increases as skill, coordination and control improve.
- Stopping, changing direction and landing are skills.Every athlete needs to learn how to decelerate, redirect and control their body.
- Producing force is only part of athleticism.Athletes also need the ability to absorb, control and stop that force.
- Strength creates the foundation for power.Getting stronger gives athletes more potential to produce force and express it explosively.
- Single-leg strength, coordination and trunk control matter.Sport constantly puts athletes in positions where they have to create and control movement from one leg.
- We train the athlete, not just the sport. The goal is to build a stronger, faster, more explosive and better-moving athlete overall.

Questions
What ages do you train?
Athlete Performance is for youth, middle school and high school athletes. Programming is adjusted based on the athlete's age, training experience and current ability.
What sports do you work with?
Athletes from volleyball, basketball, soccer, football, track, tennis and softball currently train at HenneyWay, and the qualities we develop apply well beyond that list. Your athlete does not need to play one of those sports.
Does my athlete need training experience?
No. Athletes are met at their current ability and progressed from there. Plenty start with no structured training behind them.
Is this sport-specific training?
It develops the athletic qualities a sport is played with — speed, strength, power, change of direction, movement quality — rather than replacing sport practice or coaching sport skills. What the athlete plays shapes how the training is put together.
How often should my athlete train?
Most athletes train 2–3 days per week depending on their sport, season and schedule.
Do you train athletes during their season?
Yes. Training can be adjusted during the competitive season to account for practices, games and overall workload.
Where is training held?
Inside Empire Fitness, 1155 E 151st St S #104, Glenpool, OK 74033.
Is an Empire Fitness membership required?
Yes. An active Empire Fitness membership is required for Athlete Performance training. Join Empire Fitness
What happens during the free Athlete Movement Assessment?
We meet the athlete, watch how they move, talk through their sport and goals, and identify what to work on first. It takes the guesswork out of where to start. It is not a medical evaluation, a diagnosis or an injury screen.
